It's starting to come together!!

I am excited!!  My parents just moved in behind me and in the process of going through all of their stuff -- to *try* to make room for everything in their new home -- I have in herited a new bookshelf and large filing cabinet!!

Although we are currently only homeschooling preschool years, and although it has only been less than a year since beginning, I have SOOO MUCH STUFF!  That is one reason I am looking forward to sharing all of that information in future contributing articles for this awesome magazine, because I have so much and it will be awhile before I can use it all, LOL!  Anyhoo, I had begun to feel overwhelmed in knowing that I had so much great stuff but had no idea what I had anymore or how to get to it!  Now I am feeling MUCH better about everything and can at least visually see all of my materials!

I am sure that the organizing bug in me will have me totally re-do the system about a hundred times, but for now, it has brought some much needed peace smile.gif  I am currently using my garage for a lot of it, which is where I have a large rack that I purchased at Target (***right now they are having a sale on black or white wire racks for only $12!!  I got two and put them on top of each other and it is perfect!!!***) that holds all of our art supplies (TONS!!), all of my Family Fun magazines and Old Schoolhouse Magazines, the tons of catalogs and curriculum information that suppliers have sent over the last year -- yes I started collecting it all, even for apologia and subjects they won't need for YEARS (I know I am sick!), my current curriculum choices and supplies, and all of my notecards and flashcards!  Then I have a bookshelf that holds all of our math and science books and manipulatives, our music appreciation and song books, and stack of file folders for lapbooks and empty binders.  Finally, on top of that I have a rubbermaid small shelf with a few compartments that holds all of my INEST bible videos and workbooks, children's bibles and children's devotional books.

A lot, right?  And that does not include all of the books that fill our three large bookcases in the house that have all of the classic novels, old textbooks and books that I got from teachers cleaning out their rooms on freecycle (another AWESOME resource for materials!)  See why I needed to get organized?!?!

I am still very much in the process of getting things organized and streamlined, so I would love to hear how others organize their homeschool supplies!!biggrin

Sometimes I think we have too much and it overwhelms me! Our garage is WAY TOO full for our upcoming move so that has motivated me to get rid of as much as possible.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE antique books so that is the hardest thing NOT to buy at used book stores and flea markets and the hardest thing to NOT pass up when we see them smile.gif

I did make myself a deal though... I am going through them and anything that isn't useful for homeschool (I might have to rethink that category..lol), isn't useful for studying God's work, and isn't autographed/first edition, can be taken over to our used book store. This is going to be a hard process for me. I feel like I'm just throwing them away so need to move into the mentality of believing others will get good use from them too.

Glad you are getting some helpful stuff from your parents like bookcases and such. Our parents and in-laws always buy great quality stuff so I love their "hand me downs"!

God bless,
Sallie

I have a chest in which I have baskets that keep our books and crafts organized. The kids can easily access these items when they want to!

We have a cabinet we keep the majority of our books in. Each child has a desk in their rooms for their day to day studies. I keep Timmy's in a small bin in the dining room.
