Need help teaching to tie shoes!

Time for me to admit that my, ahem... 8.5 year old does not know how to tie his shoes (and neither do my two younger ones either).  With the vast quantities of velcro and slip-in shoes, there was just never a need, y'all.  Never a need.  Until now.

And I am really only at this point by accident. I thought the shoes I had bought for my oldest were the looks-like-laces-but-its-really-bungee-cord-like-fake-laces... but I thought wrong.

So, any hints or suggestions or that song about the bunny and a tree (I think?).
